What Your Faction Choice Actually Changes
Pick opposite sides from your friends, and your adventures in Atreia begin in separate homelands. AION 2 Global faction selection determines your starting region, storyline, home server options, and allegiance in faction warfare. Get AION 2 Global faction selection right before creating your character so your group can explore together and build its community on the same side.
The two playable factions are the Elyos and the Asmodians. Both have the same eight launch classes, with identical combat stats and mechanics across factions. Neither side gives your chosen class a built-in combat advantage.
The meaningful differences are the places you inhabit, the story you follow, and the players you share a home server with. Elyos characters belong to sunlit Elysea, while Asmodian characters come from darker Asmodae.
If you already have friends or a legion waiting for you, coordinate with them before choosing. If you are starting alone, focus on the faction’s environments and narrative themes.
The Balaur also belong to AION 2’s world, but they are a non-playable draconic enemy race. Your character creation decision is between Elyos and Asmodians.
Elyos vs. Asmodians: Homelands, Story, and Style
The visual difference between the factions is easy to spot, but it also shapes the setting of your early adventures. You will begin in different zones and follow your faction’s main storyline.

| Faction Detail | Elyos | Asmodians |
|---|---|---|
| Homeland | Elysea | Asmodae |
| Position in Atreia | Sunlit southern half | Darker northern half |
| Starting zone | Poeta | Ishalgen |
| Main leveling region | Verteron | Altgard |
| Faction themes | Light and radiant imagery | Survival and darker imagery |
| Launch class access | All eight classes | All eight classes |
For AION 2 Global faction selection, this comparison gives you a useful starting point: choose the setting you want to spend time exploring, then check that your friends and intended home server match that choice.
Choosing the Elyos
Choose Elyos if you prefer sunlit landscapes and radiant faction imagery. Your journey begins in Poeta, with Verteron serving as the main leveling region.
The Elyos storyline gives you that faction’s perspective on Atreia’s conflict. If the brighter homeland appeals to you, there is no class restriction forcing you to abandon it. You can play a tank, healer, physical damage dealer, or caster on this side.
Choosing the Asmodians
Choose Asmodians if darker landscapes and a rugged survival theme appeal to you. Your starting zone is Ishalgen, followed by Altgard as the main leveling region.
You receive the same range of combat roles as an Elyos character. Selecting Asmodians changes your homeland and allegiance while preserving access to the full launch class roster.
Faction Theme and Character Appearance
Faction identity does not impose strict appearance limits. Use the character creator to shape your individual look after choosing the world and community you want.
Keep those decisions separate: the homeland sets the backdrop for your adventures, while customization lets you express your character within it. A preference for a particular character look does not need to decide your entire social experience.
Coordinate Your Region, Faction, and Home Server
AION 2 Global faction selection is connected directly to server selection. In the global version, each home server belongs to one faction.

The selection order is region, faction, then server. After choosing a faction, you select from that faction’s available server list. Elyos and Asmodian characters therefore have separate home servers.
For shared open-world adventures, your group needs to match all three choices.
| Group Decision | What to Agree On | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Region | One region for the group | Keeps everyone within the same regional setting for play |
| Faction | Elyos or Asmodians | Determines homeland, allegiance, and available home servers |
| Primary server | One exact server name | Lets the group share open-world activities |
| Backup server | Another server on the same side and in the same region | Gives everyone a coordinated alternative if the primary world is full |
Match the Exact Server Name
“Everyone picked Elyos” is only part of the coordination. Players on different Elyos servers still have different home worlds.
Before creating characters, share the exact region, faction, and server name with your group. Ask everyone to check those details rather than relying on a general message such as “join the American server.”
The global region options include NA East, NA West, South America, Central Europe, and Japan. Check your connection to the intended region before committing, especially when your friends live far apart.
Combat emphasizes timing and positioning, so connection quality deserves attention alongside social plans. Test the region your group intends to use instead of choosing solely from its name.
Plan Around Server Availability
The global launch used two server waves: early-access worlds opened on September 30, and additional launch worlds opened on October 5.
Free players could enter early-access worlds starting October 5, but that access did not guarantee space on a particular server. A world could become full before friends arrived.
That matters when joining an established group now. Check the intended server’s availability before investing time elsewhere. Keep the backup choice within the same region and faction so everyone knows where to go if the primary option is unavailable.
For group AION 2 Global faction selection, settle the complete combination together. Do not let each person independently choose an alternative world and expect those choices to line up afterward.
Separate Matchmaking From Your Home World
Dungeon matchmaking extends beyond your individual world within the same region. That broader pool is useful, but it does not replace sharing a home server for open-world play.
If your goal is to explore your homeland together, participate in the same local community, and coordinate faction encounters, choose the same region, faction, and server from the start.
Both Factions Have the Same Eight Launch Classes
You do not need to choose a faction to unlock a particular launch class. Both sides have access to the same roster and combat capabilities.
Image: Steam / NC
That makes AION 2 Global faction selection easier to separate from your build decision. Pick your faction for its world and social connections, then choose your class for the role you want to play.
| Launch Class | Core Role and Playstyle |
|---|---|
| Templar | Durable tank focused on frontline duties |
| Gladiator | Flexible melee bruiser |
| Assassin | Burst melee fighter with stealth and demanding timing |
| Ranger | Mobile physical ranged damage dealer |
| Sorcerer | Ranged caster with magic burst and area damage |
| Spiritmaster | Summons, control effects, debuffs, and solo utility |
| Cleric | Dedicated healer |
| Chanter | Hybrid support with buffs and supplemental healing |
If your friends need a healer, either faction lets you choose Cleric. If you want stealth and melee burst, Assassin is available on both sides. The same applies to every other class in the table.
Coordinate roles after agreeing on the faction and server. Discuss who wants to tank, heal, support, or deal damage so the group’s expectations match the characters people actually want to play.
Use Global Class Information
Global launches with eight classes on a modified Season 1 setup. The Brawler exists overseas but is outside the global launch roster.
Korean and Taiwan class balance and progression are ahead of the global launch setup. Rankings built around those versions can reflect systems and balance changes that your global character does not share.
Choose the combat style you enjoy before following a tier list. An Elyos Spiritmaster and an Asmodian Spiritmaster have the same faction-level combat capabilities; changing sides does not solve a mismatch between your preferred playstyle and your class.
How Faction Selection Shapes PvP and Exploration
Your faction becomes especially visible when you enter the conflict between Elyos and Asmodians. Home servers are separate, but opposing factions meet through paired-server encounters.
Each Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian server for shared faction encounters in the Abyss and Spacetime Rifts. These pairings update periodically, so your opposing server can change over time.
| Content or System | How Faction Matters |
|---|---|
| Homeland exploration | You share open-world activities with players on your home server |
| Abyss | Paired Elyos and Asmodian servers meet in a shared PvPvE zone |
| Spacetime Rifts | Temporary portals open routes into opposing-faction territory |
| Server pairings | The opposing server can change as pairings are updated |
The Abyss combines PvE and PvP in a shared battlefield. Spacetime Rifts let players enter the opposing faction’s open-world territory for exploration, PvE hunting, and PvP encounters.
Those systems create contact between the factions without turning their separate homelands into a shared cooperative starting area. If a friend chooses the opposing faction, encountering them through faction warfare is different from leveling together on one home server.
For PvP-focused AION 2 Global faction selection, prioritize the people you intend to fight alongside. Both sides have identical class combat capabilities, so the practical decision is which faction community and legion you want to join.
Keep PvE and PvP investments separate as you progress. Global uses different equipment paths and activities for those goals. Match your preparations to the content you intend to play instead of assuming one setup covers everything.
Before creating your character, finish your AION 2 Global faction selection checklist:
- Agree on Elyos or Asmodians with your friends.
- Check the intended region’s connection.
- Share the exact primary home server.
- Choose a backup within the same region and faction.

FAQ
Which faction should I choose in AION 2 Global?
Choose Elyos for sunlit Elysea and radiant themes, or Asmodians for darker Asmodae and survival themes. If you are joining friends, make AION 2 Global faction selection together and match their region, faction, and home server.
Is Elyos stronger than Asmodians?
Neither faction has a built-in combat advantage. Both offer the same eight launch classes with identical combat stats and mechanics across sides. Choose based on homeland, story, and the community you want to join.
Can Elyos and Asmodian friends level together?
Choose the same faction and home server for shared homeland exploration and open-world activities. Opposing factions have separate home servers and meet through faction encounters such as the Abyss and Spacetime Rifts.
Is choosing the same faction enough to play with friends?
You also need the same region and home server for shared open-world play. Regional dungeon matchmaking reaches beyond individual worlds, but it does not make different home servers the same place.
